✮ retrieving and interrogating Havoc (ep 5)
Retrieved: Day ??? - Nyssa
episode 5; 14:50-22:18 + episode 6; beginning of ep until 4:25 + 7:10-10:52
- the Syndicate has tasked them with the job of retrieving Havoc, a feared contractor who fought in the Heavens War--dangerous and violent and whose payment for her powers was to slaughter children
- MI6 apparently has brought her into Japan and used a bluff tactic which the CIA fell for, going after a chopper they thought Havoc would be in
- Hei's group goes after the Japanese PD cars where Havoc really is with the MI6 crew
- uses a train crossing to separate the two cars to make retrieving Havoc easier
- DARTS IN FRONT OF THE CAR THAT CROSSES FIRST TO HAVE IT STALL (literal case of running into traffic)
- a blond man in a white suit exits the car
- suddenly, a huge storm kicks up--MI6 is using contractors, and one of them (the ones stuck behind the train crossing) can control the weather
- downpour of rain makes it hard to see but then whipping out his wire at the man in the white suit
- man in suit dodges and then drops to the ground to... try to catch him with ice
- gets the fuck out of there into a park where it's dry
- FIGHT IN THE PARK, mostly him using his electricity to try to incapacitate or kill the man in the white suit
- it's a lure to get the contractor away from the car so Havoc can be retrieved. Huang does the nabbing after knocking out the cops
- they take her back to a place to keep her until drop off with the Syndicate the next day.
- the Syndicate really does not want Havoc to get near the Hell's Gate
- ... except Hei steals her away for his own reasons
- so took Havoc to a safehouse somewhere and tied her to a chair
- she's a mess, thin and looking like she hasn't gotten any rest
- "Imagine, you still being alive, Carmine." --apparently the code names for the group he was with in South America were all colors. Hei (black), Bai (white), Carmine (red), Amber...
- reasons for taking Havoc: WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED IN SOUTH AMERICA?! WHERE THE FUCK IS MY SISTER?!
- and interrogation methods include breaking fingers when Havoc doesn't answer right away
- "You were there. The day that South America disappeared, you, Amber, and Bai were there. What happened there?! Why are you and I the only ones here? Where are they? Where's Bai? WHERE IS MY SISTER?!"
- yeah, not the most rational person on the planet
- "I was not their friend. I don't know anything about Amber and the others. I don't even know whether or not they're alive now. It's true, I was in South America that day, at that location, to carry out orders from the Syndicate. But I don't remember anything that happened after that. When I regained consciousness, I was across the sea, in some out-of-the-way-place in Europe. And for some reason, I had lost my abilities. Afterward, I never set one foot outside of that town. I just lived out my days, quietly, having nothing to do with the Syndicate, or contracts."
- doesn't like what he hears at all
- "That's not what I asked you!" grabbing her face and READY TO VIOLENCE MORE
- "Then what can I say to make you believe me? I don't have the information that you are after. If you are under contract, then you know. Ultimately, what comes first to a contractor isn't the organization or the ideology. It's oneself. There's nothing to be gained by holding one's tongue while being tortured. But apparently, you don't understand that. You, who were more cold-blooded than anyone, despite not being a contractor... you, the one who was even feared as the black reaper... now that you are a contractor, here you are beside yourself over something like your sister."
- "SHUT UP!" clearly, what she's saying is hitting too close to home and temper means smacking her across the face hard enough that she falls over in her chair
- "You are emotional, but you aren't mentally unstable, like a moratorium, and you don't appear to have paid your price, either. ... are you really a contractor?"
- at some point, Havoc passes out and after putting her on the couch, Hei starts to cook... a lot of food. >8||||||||||||||||||||
- sets some fried rice on the coffee table in front of the couch and unties Havoc so she can eat it. instead she seems to sit up and... talk
- "You still eat a lot, huh? Do you always make it yourself? Up until I lost my abilities, I never thought of meals as enjoyable. It was enoguh that I was taking in food to sustain my body. But then I met Lola's family, and learned how to cook. At first, the children didn't seem to like my cooking. But before long, they started to tell me 'I want to eat this' or 'I want to eat that'. I was glad. I wanted to feed them more food that was delicious. I got so that I wanted to see their happy faces more. Me, who had sucked the blood of children as the price of my contract..."
- . . . then she tries to eat... with broken fingers, that is.
- so he gets up and sits across from her and starts to feed her
- "It's delicious." so he's a good cook...
- "Lola's mother told me never to trust a man who was a good cook. He's definitely a bad chap, she'd say."
- he pauses in feeding her
- "I'm kidding."
- . . . eats the next spoonful himself.
- "...! Are you mad? And you, a contractor..."
- doesn't answer, just quietly eating
- and then... Havoc laughs.
- a contractor laughing at all isn't likely? possible?
- and hers is a very broken kind of cheerful sound, as if she's never really laughed before and doesn't know what to do with it.
- "You really have changed. Still, it's not bad."
- "It's weird," he says, calm for once and something of a rueful smile on his own face, "This is the first time I've ever seen you smile."
- "It still seems unnatural. Although, that goes for both of us."
- and smile is gone, mostly because... yeah... well...
- "Perhaps I'm not the only one to whom this experience was given. It's possible that everyone else is still alive somewhere, like you and I are."
- it's a far-fetched thought but he's got nothing else to go on
- "I'm going to help you. Take me to the Gate. Once I'm there, my abilities as well as my memories of that time will return, and I might be able to establish your sister's whereabouts. But I want you to promise me one thing. If I--if I go back to the way I was back then, then kill me. Right there on the spot."
